Connect Beyond Words: Laughter Yoga for Dementia and Alzheimer's Clientele

Saturday, November 6th

10:00 am - 11:30 am PST

Join Annie and Liz for Connect Beyond Words--a Laughter Yoga workshop tailored to provide skills to Laughter Yoga professionals, staff members at Assisted Living Facilities and Adult Day Centers, as well as family and professional care partners.

You’ll learn simple but powerful ways to bring the healing powers of Laughter Yoga to clients and family members with Alzheimer's and dementia.

Laughter Yoga is a highly effective and fun way to engage this population and release healthy endorphins to boost mood and healing! Laughter Yoga combines accessible and easy laughter exercises plus simple yogic breathing. It taps into the mind-body connection to lift the mood, reduce stress, lower blood pressure and support the immune system, while increasing engagement with others.

Laughter Yoga is a global movement started by Dr. Madan Kataria, an MD from India, in 1995 and has spread to over 100 countries around the world.

This workshop is for:

  • Laughter Yoga professionals looking to expand into working with Alzheimer's and dementia clientele

  • Staff members at an assisted living or adult day center

  • Care partners—professional or personal

In this workshop, you'll learn skills such as:

  • How to create connection and safety to engage successfully with a group or individuals

  • How to gauge the capabilities of the group or individual and what will work with them

  • Which Laughter Yoga exercises work best with people with different levels of dementia

  • How to modify Laughter Yoga exercises to make them effective tools to engage this population

"This was a brilliant idea for a workshop! I feel lighter not just about my own aging, but my parents as well. I always thought I didn’t have feelings about my own aging, but now I realize I do. What a relief to be honest with myself."

"Sharing my journey with other playful seekers who wish to add more meaning to life helped to expand my positive view of the aging process.Your program not only helped deepen my compassion for others, but has helped me to feel more compassion for myself. This is what I am continuing to practice in my life."

 - Jeannette Logan, Youthful Hearts, Fitness Classes for over 50

"Annie did such a great job in dealing with a topic that is almost taboo in our society. It was liberating finding the humor in it and to laugh. Talking so openly about aging and growing older made me feel more understanding and compassionate towards others and myself. It helped me to see it more from the humorous side. Annie’s leadership style made me feel at ease at the very beginning. Her laughter and kindness were shining through."

- Rika
